Drop It Like It’s Hot! Baby Audio Transit Review

Whether it be a build to an epic drop or a fade to a smoother middle 8, there is something in there to suite all genres.

I take a look at the epic new plugin from the team at Baby Audio who have just released their newest addition to their range of unique plugins. Transit offers up a multitude of options when it comes to joining song parts together. Whether it be a build to an epic drop or a fade to a smoother middle 8, there is something in there to suite all genres so lets dig deep into the Baby Audio Transit review.

I’m a huge fan of the work from Baby Audio and their other plugins covered in previous reviews always get top marks. There is no bias, I just find them unique and clever in the way they have something extra to offer above and beyond similar plugins of their type. Transit is no different to this and offers tonnes more than just a riser effect.

Modules & Effects

There are 18 effect modules included within Transit which are custom made to be used as transition methods. These range from classic modulation effects, distortion and degradation options, motion FX, reverb, delay, two filter types – there is even a synth oscillator and noise generator for adding risers and sweeps to your transitions. This will guarantee you a unique sound to your mixes and offer up a load of colour.

Transit Presets Part Time Producer

The presets built in contain a selection from YouTube sensation and musical wizard Andrew Huang. You might know Andrew from his 4 Producers 1 Sample series on YouTube. His unique take on production methods have been beautifully captured in the Transit plugin and the sounds can be found in the presets area as shown above.

But ! More than just presets, we learned in this Baby Audio Transit review that the entire plugin was helped developed by Mr H himself. They say “We teamed up with Andrew Huang to create Transit: An FX plugin that’ll give your mix transitions super powers. Use it for build-ups, drops, motion effects, risers and sweeps – and keep your listeners constantly engaged.” Great to hear and even better to experience.

Install and First Impressions

As with all Baby Audio plugins, the install was really simple. A download from the website, both Mac and PC is supported. I opted for the Windows download and ran the exe. I had a choice of VST2, VST3 & AAX all 32 and 64 bit versions. I opted for 64bit VST3 to use with Bitwig Studio and installed from there. A small footprint of a plugin too at a touch over 17mb in size.

Open up of Bitwig and away we go. On opening I had to let it scan as usual for the plugin but once found it was just a case of dropping it on a track and letting Bitwig discover it. Then apply the license key and away we go.

There is a really helpful Quickstart that takes you through a 7 step how to showing you the various areas of the plugin. This I liked because it offers up a very quick but brief guide on how to use the plugin and where to find things. As with most audio stuff, signal flows left to right – this follows suit and you can switch on and of or re-order the modules as you wish.

Quickstart Steps In Baby Audio Transit Review

Modulation Stations

As with everything in Bitwig, the ability to modulate the effects of the Transit plugin can be done in the effects container under the workflow. This is a simple “Map to Controller or Key” automation setting then either applying an LFO or other effect input. The variety of choices here is endless. The control of the modulation input can then be controlled in the Transit plugin container.

Final Thoughts

As with many of the plugins from them, the Baby Audio Transit review taught me it has yet again a unique spin on a utility we can all use in our mixes. Getting a nice balance between sections of a song will always help it flow with ease. A key learning for most new or part time producers like myself it getting that professional sound in a mix. It usually comes down to two of the three basic things: Balance and structure (the other being having a good basic mix to start with!) If you get the structure right, this utility will help you navigate your way between sections of the song and make it sound “right”. It can be a daunting task to chop between sections, especially if they are contrasting styles or sheer drop outs. Transit will help you get from A to B.
