10 questions with… Unlock Your Sound Shooting the breeze with Christopher Carvalho

We speak with Christopher Carvalho, the founder of Unlock Your Sound. My interest in music production was re-ignited having spoken to the guys at ULS.

They provide free mix reviews and help independent artists with all aspects of releasing music. Christopher launched the company in 2018 and it’s gone from strength to strength. Let’s learn a bit about the man himself…

Question Time

Do you produce music as well as helping promote artists?

I do the odd audio gig and sometimes even open Logic Pro for fun.

Can you share a bit about your methods of promoting artists?

I help artists build, define, and communicate their brand to their ideal audience, directly.

What influences made you want to take up music production as a hobby?

Back in the day, it was spinning records at home with my mates.

What tips do you have for making the most of your time?

I don’t worry about units of time that much. I give myself a lot of space to think and be creative.

Aside from music production, what other skills would you say are important for new musicians in getting noticed?

Honestly, many people (understandably) lack core business principles and skills.

If you were not busy with Unlock Your Sound, what would you be?

I really don’t know. Maybe someone in tech? But that’s a stretch.

Lars Ulrich Unlock your sound
Chris would most like to work with Lars Ulrich, a Danish musician, songwriter, and record producer.
Lars gained worldwide fame as the drummer and co-founder of American heavy metal band Metallica.

What is the dream?

A new music economy where artists and fans exchange value directly. Everything I do goes in that direction.

Dead or alive, who would be the one musician you’d like to work with and why?

Lars Ulrich, I think he has a very creative mind and pictures things holistically.

From the artists you’d helped promote, what is your proudest achievement?

Every time they have engaged with a fan directly.

Conclusion

Put your music to the ears of the professionals and get a free mix feedback along with access to a whole host of resources. See more of Christopher’s work at the Unlock Your Sound website or on the Unlock Your Sound YouTube channel
